Philippe Shangti’s art is made of impossible contrasts as the artist himself likes to remind. His pop, glamorous, sexy and even sometimes erotic photographs contrast with the often transgressive and moralizing messages they convey. Indeed, “Art is my hope in this world”, the fetish phrase of the artist Philippe Shangti, reminds us that the whole of his work is realized to denounce the vices of our society, and to point the finger at the self-destructive human behaviors.

Thanks to a strong aestheticism, and a sharp eye for perfection and detail, each of the artist’s works allows us to apprehend serious and sometimes disturbing subjects, without ever falling into vulgarity or “trash”.
He skilfully manages to deal with serious subjects such as the denial of drug use, the hypocrisy linked to the vast world of prostitution, the irreversible damage of pollution, or even the repression of women’s rights within our societies.
